Losing Inserts Out Of Rod Guides?

Featured Replies

Just this past week, I lost an insert out of a tip and then on another rod I lost an insert out of a middle guide.  Not sure how or where.

I noticed I have never lost an insert on a rod with microguides.

Whenever I get the chance, I will take them by Tackle Trap to get repaired.

anyone else hate when this happens?

I hear ya. After never having an issue in 15 years, Ive lost about half a dozen in the last 3.

It probably has nothing to do with it, but the only thing Ive changed is running braid w/leaders alot. I suspect the repetitive "ticking" of that knot over time hitting an insert that isnt seated correctly could cause them to come out

Another thing Ive noted is that all guides were pac bays. Never had an issue with rods equipped with fujis, ss304's, etc. .

okay so I called Dobyns and they are sending me the replacement guide.  Abu Garcia has not yet responded.  Might be a little harder to get something from them.

Leader knots won't hurt a guide ring. Inadvertently reeling a swivel or weight into the tip might knock one out. The majority of issues are the result of banging around during normal use or being stepped on etc.

I have 2 Fuji inserts that are loose... Pacbay minimas? I like them.. No trouble.. Recoils? Same.. No troubles... Micros? I won't use them. I see unbelievable #s of these damaged or missing inserts. That's my experience. I would rather just use Fuji aluminum oxides w/ full size frames than micros... Other than minimas

One of mine is a tip and the other on the Dobyns is a middle guide which must have gotten damaged during transport.

I've had two inserts come out of the guides of a heavily used St. Croix Premier BC rod in the past year. Press fitted the inserts back into the guides, applied a little bead of superglue to each side, good to go.............(so far...).
