Shallow Water Pole Anchor

Featured Replies

Anyone know if there are anycheap rigs already out there That is a complete set up for a pole anchore.  I'm about to get to work on a set up to make it quick and easy for a pole anchor for my bass boat.  Its really anoying to have to float over my spot and bump the trolling motor and scare the fish off just to stay in place.  But mostly i just wanna save some money.  Any experiences anyone has that is not good so i can get this right the first time.  Thanks

I know TW has some on their site. I don't know that I'd consider them cheap, but they'd be worth checking out.

There are a number of different brands. The word cheap is relative. I know someone makes one that attaches to a cleat. Couldn't tell you the name.

Cheap?  Not really.  I think you're going to be looking at $200 minimum for one pole anchor and one mount.  If you really want to be cheap about it, you can cut quite a bit of the cost by using a large key ring and some rope tied to your boat.  This allows you to stick the fiberglass anchor through the key ring and forgo purchasing some $150+ mount.  The fiberglass pole anchor s still going to run you between $50 and $100.

I actually found some scrap metal in the yard and ive welded up a swivel on the front of my boat and on the back of the boat I have a piece of metal ive bent and fabricated to were i can turn the pole to be parrallel with the boat(without haveing to take the pole out and and put in the way) and slide into the bracket on the back and it has a bolt in it I can tighten onto the pole. The kicker is im trying to find a fiberglass pole thats cheap but evective.  Ive been using rebob.  It works but its not practicle.

I made my own out of scraps I had around the shop. I bought 2 eight foot fiberglass poles and tips from amgs4u.com. Poles were cheap at $16 each and shipping wasn't to bad at $36. If you can find anyone else who wants to do the same thing you can save on shipping, that cost will cover up to 22 poles in the same box.

I have pics that I can upload or text to you if you want to see. Made one to mount to the motor bracket and one to my trolling motor bracket. The one up front is not as useful as I thought it would be because it doesn't work in anything more than 5' of water.

So far so good on them. I forgot I had the back one in and hit the trolling motor and held really well.
