Berkley Lightning Rod-Shock Or Not?

Featured Replies

I am looking to buy a rod for a baitcaster. They are same price at Wal-Mart, not sure which to go with. I saw somewhere that the shock series is for braid? I don't think I will be using that to start off with. Would I still be ok with the Shock series or should I be looking at the regular Lightning Rod?

look for a castaway on sale they are much better

I believe the Shock series has more fiberglass blended into the tip of the rod to help compensate for the no stretch property of PE lines.  The tip will be softer than the traditional Lightning Rod series.

I've had both rods.  The Shock series are slower in action but equally powered to the regular LR.  Think of them as more of a moving bait stick when compared to a regular LR.

I have a lightning, pretty nice rod for the price. I like it better than the shock.

The shocks are great for the price. I own two in the casting version, for plastics.
