Started using the wacky worm rig in a small pond up here outside of Boston.

 

Have a piece of Shrink Tubing in the middle of the worm, and hook the worm thru this tubing and the worm.

So the hook is Perpendicular to the worm's long axis.

 

First time I've tried them. Real novice at this.

 

Would really appreciate your thoughts and opinions on the following,  please:

 

a. What style of hook do you find best ?

Normal Aberdeen straight (long) shank, or an offset worm style hook, or...?

 

Why ?

 

b. What hook size for a 3" Senko ?

 

    What hook size for a 4" Senko ?

Size 1 weedless wacky hook from Owner or Gamakatsu works good.

The hook can be in the center for drop shot, however about 1/3 rd back for no weight 1/4 back for nail nose weight.

Experiment until you find what works for you, your line type and size can affect how fast the Senko swims to the bottom.

I'm becoming a fan of circle hooks as deep hooking a fish is a concern for me when using this technique.  Also, they don't hang up as readily as other exposed hooks.  There are a number of good hooks made specifically for wacky rigging, but to be honest most styles will work, some are just better suited. If you're hooking just under the tubing (there's no need to hook through the worm in this situation), you can use the same size hook for both sizes.

You'll get a lot of opinions. Here's mine:

 

Wacky 3" can be from a size #4 to a size #1

 

Wacky 4" size #2 on up to a 2/0

 

5" Size #1 - 2/0 and so on.

 

Types of hooks: Gamakatsu Wide Gap Finesse and Split shot/drop shot

 

Caught my PB on a size #1 Wide Gap Finesse rig (7 ½ pounder in thick salad slop).

Owner moquito hooks work great for me

3 inch: size 4 red owner hook

4 inch: size 1-1/0 owner hook

The reason i use them is that they are extremely sharp and hold the sharpness fora while. They are also very skinny yet strong so they go into the top of bass's mouths almost every time. 

Started wacky rigging 5" senkos with o-rings and 2/0 Gamakatsu Weedless Wide Gap Finesse hooks. At some point this year, I thought they were too large and downsized to the 1/0 and Size 1.

Around this time I started kayak fishing and was missing/losing fish. It was more likely my poor hooksets from a kayak were causing it rather than the hook size, but I started looking at other options.

Settled on the 1/0 Owner Weedless Wacky hooks. With practice and these hooks, my hook-up ratios went up.

Three weeks ago I went back to Cabelas and they were out is the weedless version, so I was forced to buy the standard 1/0 Owner Wacky hooks.

Realized that I wasn't snagging any more or less than weedless. They cost less. And last Saturday I boated my #2 and #3 largest fish (6.25 and 6.0) with them.

Went back to Cabelas yesterday and bought two more packs of the standard Owner hooks.

Jackall flick shack hook, with a flick shake worm, very finesse, catches a lot of fish. Best wacky rig presentation I've ever used.

Owner weedless wacky hooks in size 1 and 2/0, depending on cover.  In more open water I will use the 2/0 and in heavy cover, I will use the size 1.  I also use Owner ultrahead wacky style 1/16 and 1/8 oz weedless jigheads and if those aren't in stock I will use VMC weedless wacky jigheads.
