I've recently started using braided line on one of my baitcasters and I used mono backing.  I want to put it on my wife's spinning reel as well but wasn't sure if you would use backing on a spinning reel or not.

The main purpose of backing IMO is to use less braid as your mainline.  I tape every reel before I spool up with or without backing, slippage will not be an issue.  It becomes a personal choice issue.

Agree with the other guys, backing is great for cutting down on how much braid you use, slipping doesn't enter into the equation for me.

With braid as costly as it is, backing is the common sense approach to filling more than one spool. I use an inexpensive mono of a pound test rating I have on hand, usually 15# test.

Yup if Im spooling straight braid I'll just put a piece of electric tape on the spool. If I'm in money saver mode I go for mono backing

i use black tape

i'll use some cheap or old mono for backing....so i only have about 75 yards max on the spool.  that way i can get at least a couple spools worth out of each box of braid.
