This may have been covered and I'm sorry for not seeing it but for a plastics/jig rod do I want a fast or x fast tip and why?

Both are fine. Like the post above says, its a matter of preference.

Will you be using braid, fluoro, mono? I prefer a fast tip if I am using braid but if you are using either of the other two types of lines, I would get an xfast. That's just my preference. Like others have said, either will work.

Personal preference, because I like the Daiwa Regular action rods for jigs and soft Plastics.
