Wondering what you guys are using for square bills? I've been using 14# sufix seige and having terrible luck. I'm running rock mostly, and having to retie every 4-5 casts. I need something with some more abrasion resistance, without breaking the bank. Any suggestions?

Strange. I use 12-14lb siege around rocks and haven't had an issue. You must be digging into some nasty stuff.

I would say switch to a fluoro as the coating should help with your abrasion resistance. If the rocks are that bad, id say use seaguar abrazx or trilene 100% in 14lb but just know it is gonna have a good amount of memory. Invizx is a good line but has some stretch and less abrasion resistance.

If you wanted the best of the best, sunline shooter, Toray superhard or seaguar tatsu but you are talking mucho cash for those

Probably fish the same or close to the same pools you do. (I frequent 9-12) 14# siege gets tore up quick on the river's rock/zebra muscles despite it being "abrasion resistant". If you want to go cheap mono, go pline CXXBerkley Big game /w line conditioner. CXX is tough as nails..  Other end of the spectrum...I went /w 15# tatsu as it was on sale over the winter for half price  Great line and has some of the best abrasion resistance I've found for the zebra muscles. Constantly checking and retying is just part of the game this time of year on the river.

Yea, rocks are destructive for any line types....CXX or Yozuri hybrid... Some folks can't or don't like to throw these lines... IMO ... They are the best lines for almost all my fishing

Ive used 17lb seige on a dedicated squarebill rod for years and cant recall ever losing a bait. Dont have zebras but I do cast through and and intentionally over Appomattoax and James River rocks a great deal.

You can try a yozuri hybrid or Pline CXX, but be warned memory can be an issue above 12lb in both lines.

I use 14 lb Trilene XT.  Excellent abrasion resistance and cheap.

I use 20lb Sunline Super Monofilament and have not had any problem. The line is abrasion resistant and it has a smaller diameter and actually has the same diameter as the 14lb Siege you are using.

I use 12# invisx...works great around brush and wood....havnt had the squares in the rocks....yet lol

Ive never had any major issues with flouro in the rocks on other cranks or baits though. Sometimes it gets chewed up but i think thats part of game

Has anyone tried the trilene XL armor coated?

 

Seems yo-zuri is mentioned a lot. I use it for UL fishing but haven't tried it on a baitcaster yet. Looking forward to trying it when I can find it somewhat cheap.
