Best Starting Rod

Featured Replies

Any rod suggestions.  Looking for something not too expensive, but a rod that is venerable among the fishing community.  Even a brand name to get started would be nice.

Thanks,

Mike

We need a pricing point to help.

Abu Garcia Veritas. Nice, sensitive, and can be had pretty cheap.

Around $100 baitcasting rods - Veritas, *** Black, Powell Max, (on sale for 128 on Tackle Warehouse), Shimano Crucial (on sale for 120 on Tackle Warehouse)

I have the Powell Max 683 EF, and I absolutely love it so far. It is very sensitive.

If you are looking for a spinning rod, can't go wrong with the Veritas. ($79)

Look at the Denali line of rods.  Lots of rods under $125

okuma ev-a are nice for the price range . They have a medium heavy  fishes more like a medium . Excellent rod for shakey heads , small crankbaits , drop shots etc .

These all are good suggestions. Now, having your price point in mind, go to several sporting goods stores to see and handle a bunch of different rods. In my experience, it only takes handling a rod for a short time to to know......
