Should I Do It??????

Featured Replies

Ok so I have been fishing a lot with my Avid and I absolutely love everything about it. I love it so much so that I'm considering buying another one or maybe even upgrading to a Legend series rod. So my question is should I upgrade to a Legend Series rod, and if so which one. Or should I just stick to the Avids???

So I am just here to be an enabler......do it

If you buy the legend you will never look at the avid the same way again. If you can afford to buy legends from now on, then go ahead and get one.. because once you have one you will never want to use an avid again.

Maybe it's just me but I much prefer to have 2 of something I am happy with than 1 of something that might be better. For example, if I had 300$ I'd rather get two good rods for 150 that I like, than one 300$ rod that might be awesome. It's just my preference.

If I were to upgrade which one should I get? Tournament, Elite, or Extreme?

If you like the Avid, get the Elite. My 70MF Elite is maybe my favorite rod. I upgraded from an Avid and there's no comparison.

Really? That really makes me want to get one because I prefer the full cork handle. Have you ever fished an Extreme?

I have. I actually felt that the new blank with TET was slightly more crisp than the Elite. I just didn't care for the reel seat or the handle. The grip material feels great, but the handle was very short and kind of an odd shape The skeleton seat just didn't feel good either, plus there's an absurd amount of exposed threads above the foregrip which can be uncomfortable after rubbing your finger all day. I like the Elite because it's more traditional and plenty sensitive. I also like the full handle.

If you're going to spend Elite or Xtreme money, you should consider getting a custom build on a St. Croix blank.

Thanks for the reply. I see an Elite in my near future. I get my quarterly bonus on Friday so I'll be putting in an order to TW then!

I'm not really sure who to talk to about that? Are there any sponsors that do that kind of thing or anyone you can recommend?

If I were you, I'd wait another couple weeks and get one on sale during Independence Day sales. TW usually has 15% off. That's a pretty good chunk off on a $330 rod.

I can help you with a rod build. PM or email me if you want to discuss the process.
