Alright, I'm convinced. Fishing a jig is amazing. I went into today planning to use a jig 75% of the time but ended up using it the whole day. I caught 8 bass (very good for this small lake) and had a blast watching them go after the jig in clear water. I do need to work on my hookups. I let 4 bass get away and I'm sure that they were all at least twelve pounders.

I think I may now have my first confidence bait. I've felt pretty comfortable using a lipless crank in the spring but I didn't have nearly the bites I did today. Hopefully I can get out again later this week and duplicate today's performance.

I'm tring to remember just how many teener fish I've lost on the bite? I pulled this one the other day fishing with our local guide and best friend Ron "the one I missed was bigger than the one you caught!"

 

swordsman, congrats on the jig day, and it's just as Bluebasser says, you'll end up with a ton of jigs because "this one will work well at this time of yr., and this one this time of yr., ect. A 50/50 hook set on the first time out is far above the norm. Keep up the good work!

I too am starting to have success pitching jigs. I can see how they can become a confidence bait. Much continued success with them, swordsman.

The 12lb comment was sarcasm, thus the . They were more likely 1-2lb fish given the typical bass found in the lake. It had to be restocked after a pretty severe case of overfishing a few years back.

Great job. The hard part is outta the way. Now the fun begins. Learning to feel the different bites, etc. theres nothing at all like jig fishing IMO. Plenty more, and plenty bigger to come.

Congrats!!! I was out on Friday, we had a lot of rain and the water was dirty and the temp dropped from 70 down to the low 60s. We threw a bladed jig, and a spinnerbait for a bit but decided to throw the jig since it looked as if the fish weren't going to chase anything moving. We tied on 3/8oz and 1/2oz Arky jigs with smallie beavers used as trailers in black neon and it was the ticket all day.

I am hoping to join you.  Tomorrow I am heading to my favorite local pond with new jigs.  Never fished them before.  Can't wait!
