Places To Fish Near Birmingham, Al

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I just moved to Birmingham from Georgia and i was trying to find some places to fish. I do not have a boat so I will be doing mostly bank fishing. Looking into getting a kayak, but do not have one at the moment. Really looking for smaller lakes, ponds, etc that you guys may know of. Been searching around and have only identified Oak Mountain State Park, and possibly lake Purdy (if I can find a spot to fish thats not near that place off 119).

Any info would be really helpful. Try to be as specific as possible with any directions as my Birmingham mind map isnt so great yet.

Thanks

TJ

Well that really depends on how far you are willing to go outside the city. There's Logan matting lake, lake purdy and lake wehepa. Now I have only fished lake Logan matting and lake purdy. Since I'm not regularly from burningham or alabama I can't help that much but those are some in the area. Now in oak mountain state park, there is Oak mountain lake. Then up north a little further than Birmingham close to springville there is inland lake. One of my good friends has fished there and it is pretty good I've heard. Then lastly of my knowledge there is highland lake which is just a few miles north of inland lake. Directions wise I can only say about Logan Martin which I used my gps to get to. Look up the lakes website and it should tell you directions and popular fishing spots. If you have a boat that could be even better. Hope this helps some. I wish I could do more but this is about all I can.

Talk soon

Sorry I forgot you said you didn't have a boat.

A kayak would be a great thing to have and you don't need a 1000 dollar one. As long as it floats right? Lol.

Just practice kayaking before you fish out of one.

Just telling you from experience.

I'm from Bessemer and there are plenty of good fishing spots around here. It doesn't have to be a big lake either. A lot of the subdivisions around here hold fish. There's a pond in midfield that you can fish that's open to public. And if you see a private lake at a house somewhere just go up and politely ask if you could possibly fish their lake. Just make sure to let them know you won't be doing anything illegal, and you'll pick up any garbage that you see laying around, and you won't leave any behind. There's a golf course a little west of Birmingham, in Brighton and the last I'd heard they would let people fish in the afternoon after they close at around 5:30 in the spring and summer months. If it helps any, you could pull up google maps and just look for lakes and ponds. There's plenty of good places to fish around here
