Veritas Winch Or Bps Crankin' Stick

Featured Replies

I am looking to buy a 7'6" MH deep crankbIt setup. I've narrowed my choices down to the Winch and Crankin Stick. Both are the same price and I've handled both and can't really decide. Which do you think is a better rod? Is one more sensitive then the other?

The only hold up with the Veritas is I had a 6'9" ML that was pretty dead. I have heard a lot of good about both and am having a hard time deciding between the 2. Thanks.

I had the 7' 6" crankin stick and traded it in for the 7' veritas. the crankin stick was just to cumbersome feeling. i downsized to the veritas due to its ability to handle 6xd's nicely and well i don't throw anything more than that with our thermocline being so high.

I got a 76 veritas the reel seat fastener kinda sucks . Make sure you try a reel on it befor buying.

The veritas reel seat collar will gouge your reel foot too. Make sure you put a strip of electrical tape over the foot.

Veritas all the way. I have three of them and just bought a veracity as well. I've probably had 6-8 abu rods and never had any problems out of them. Their always great for me and very sensitive. Everyone always talks trash on them and I don't get it. Very sensitive and durable. They are a little on the stiff side of their rating but that's part of the reason I like them better. Jmo

I have both rods your asking about, and my answer is..............DEPENDS. If your cranking  over/around heavy grass, go with the Cranking Stick, it's a little stouter for better/cleaner rips out of the grass. Hard cover or just about anything else, Veritas. It's lighter than the Cranking Stick. Also, to me at least, the Veritas is a tad over powered with a big bait like a 6xd or 3/4 oz lipless, it handles 5xd's and/or 1/2 oz traps great though.

Thanks for the help.  My lakes have little to no grass.  I mostly target hard cover.  My go to deep cranks are DT14s and DT16s, Little John DDs, and Strike King 5xds.

It sounds like the Veritas is going to be a better choice for me.

My local BPS has neither in stock so I had them order one of each for me to handle.  In the mean time I picked up a Falcon Jason Christie Signature rod.  I got the 7' MH/M crankbait and spinnerbait rod.  It seems like a winner.  Hoping to hit the lake this weekend to give it a try.

Anybody have any experience with this rod?
