First Kayak Milk Crate Rod Holder

Featured Replies

I bought a milk crate last month and finally got around to buying a PVC pipe today and some plastic ties. So here it is! I put tape on the lip of the rod holders so they won't scratch up my reels. I can't wait to try out. I might cut slips in the pipes so my rods can slide down and stay in place but I'm going to try it out first before I do any more cutting. Most of my fishing is done on strip pits so there's not much wave action so I don't think I need to bungee my rods down.

Don't forget rod leashes just in case you flip over you don't lose all your gear. I made mine cheap with cell phone car chargers and cut the ends and hooked a eye hook on one side and a calibener on the other that clips on the handle of my spinning reels.

where did you buy your milk crate?

Walmart.  But I went to Menard's later and found some mild crates cheaper than Walmart!  lol.

tractor supply carries them as well

I got mine free through a local google groups post but you could probably find one if you post on Facebook or craigslist.

if there is room in the yak well where the crate sits, you can put the holders on the outside of the crate and gain crate storage space.

I agree. I had them inside but found more room putting them outside. Definitely the way to go. I attached mine by pop rivets.

I tried my milk crate rod holder out this evening in my kayak.  It worked very well!!  Now I would like to do some night time fishing in my kayak.

Nice setup. I've been thinking about getting a milkcrate and attaching some rod holders. The only problem I'm having is that my storage area is to far back I don't think id be able to reach everything very easily. I have an Emotion Grand Slam Angler.

You could attach some longer pvc feet on the back and shorter feet on front and be able to move it closer. So the milkcrate sits level on top of the kayak.
