Lake Varner, Covington Georgia

Featured Replies

Hey guys me and my cousin are taking his new boat out on lake Varner in Covington Georgia. Anybody ever fished here? We could use some tips on what to use and where to go, thanks

Yes, I've fished there enough...

First off, I assume you know it's an electric-only lake, and you cannot even put a boat with a gas motor in it, correct? :)

Secondly, onto the fishing.  I can't say that I've got the place figured out, but we'd generally always put fish in the boat.  Problem is that it was a grass lake until last year then they decided to eradicate, so I've not been out enough on it post-grass to see how the fish have changed.  What I can say with a relatively high degree of confidence is that you should be able to find some largemouth and hybrid schooling activity in the afternoon.

Just saw this post....  I've fished it a few times, like Chris said, always putting fish in the boat.  However, i've yet to land any of the lunkers that i'm told are there.  Also, that place gets some serious weekend traffic with a full parking lot most days.  I'm trying to get out there on a weekday to see if there's less pressure and a chance for a better bite.

Like Chris said, i have found them schooling in the later afternoon.  Found a large school one day just past the bridge straight ahead from the ramp.  It was topwater heaven.

Nice lake, even had an awesome Bald Eagle encounter out there one day.
