I've got a friendly fishing tournament there this weekend. I've never fished there before so any help/advice you guys could give me will be greatly appreciated. We are going to be fishing out of a 16 ft jon boat as well. What colors work well, what's the water clarity like? Thanks in advance.

Any restrictions on which ones you can fish or is it just a free for all on which pits you fish?

As far as I know we can fish any pit we want.

Sorry, lost track of this thread. You can get all kinds of water and cover because there's so many different ponds and lakes to fish. If I was going down there to fish a tournament, I'd buy my trout permit and probably never leave the trout pit. It's not easy fishing, but it has the biggest fish of any of them and better average size than most. Most of the pits down close to it are really good too. There's a very shallow one by West Mineral that has some pigs, but it's about 3-5' deep through most of it and even shallower in a lot of it, not easy to navigate a lot of the time. For the more stained ones I've caught more big fish on buzzbaits and spinnerbaits than anything else. For the clear ones a wacky rig, shakyhead, jig, popper or walking topwater, and a swimbait. I like black for the buzzbait, chartreuse and white for the spinnerbait. With the wacky rig and shakyheads watermelons and green pumpkins are usually best. Best jig has been Texas Craw, kind of a rusty camo color, baitfish colors for the topwaters and swimbaits.
