I'm trying out the manns big jelly worms 12". I was wondering if my current 7' medium rod would work suggestions and comments are appreciated.

7' med rod - if your using braid ...

Most worm dragging is going to be done with 12 - 15lb fluoro / co-polymer line and a 6'6" + length MH  fast rod .

How much weight are you adding? What type of cover?

I have to start fishing wire leaders with my worms because the pickerel are nuts for em, especially with a fast snake like retrieve. The wire adds a little weight to the fall to.

Rocks and a 1/4 oz weight @ Chris I have a 6'6" with 50 lb braid would that work

I'm curious as to how much the worm weighs. It is a big worm, though not very thick from what I remember. Some worms like the Rage Thumper, if I'm not mistaken, weigh almost 1/2oz or so. Adding a 1/4oz weight to that puts you up around 3/4oz which I would want a MH rod for personally. You may try it out on the Med power rod and see how you like it. If you need to switch to another rod, then switch to another rod.

Adding a 1/4oz weight to that puts you up around 3/4oz which I would want a MH rod for personally. You may try it out on the Med power rod and see how you like it. This is exactly why I use a MXF for my weightless and a MHXF for weighted plastics. Plastic weighs something too and while you can ignore it I prefer not to.

I used a ZOOM 10" Ol' Monster weightless on a 6.6 MF, and it felt fine. I think adding 2" and a 1/4 OZ weight will be ok, but then again I don't know how much the 12" Jelly Worms weigh.

I bought a pack of the 12" jelly worms and I got the 6/0 heavy duty hooks to go with it. Looking at the weight of the worm and the meaty hook, I was not comfortable throwing that with less than my MH rod. It would take a solid tug to set that hook through the worm. What hook are you using with your worm?

Your set up isn't ideal should work OK if you use sharp hooks the right style and size for these worms.

Manns 12; Jelly worms are injection molded and not the softest plastic, so how you rig this worm is more important than the weight size used, 1/4 oz perfect.

My suggestion is Owner #5103 size 5/0, skin hooked. skin hooked means you run the hook point out the top of the worm so it lays flat, then pull the point back about 1/8", pinch the worm and poke the point into the worm to cover the hook point with a skin of thin plastic.

to hook set, take a monent to drop a little slack into the line, then snap set into the slightly slack line to drive the hook through the basses mouth.

You are asking me? I was using 4/0 ewg off set worm hook, but comparing a ZOOM 10" Ol' Monster to an 12" Mann's Big Jelly Worm is like comparing a worm to a snake.
