$100 For A Reel, Need Pros And Cons

Featured Replies

Hey Bass Resource,

Looking for some experience and knowledge. Have $100 to spend on a reel, kinda narrowed it down to the Abu Garcia Orra 2SX 6.4:1 left hand, and a Lew's SS1 Speed Spool, 6.4:1 left-handed also. Just wondered what you folks thought.

I know that Lew's has the $20 rebate going on, but I won't be able to purchase until after it expires, so that is not a game changer for me.

Also, kinda on a random note, is Lew's discontinuing the Speed Spool? Started to hear some rumors about it and figured the best place to find some truth would be here.

Thanks, Tight Lines, and Good Luck,

MSA

I have heard great things about both. And I highly doubt lews would discontinue the speed spool. I personally have not used either, but I think either one would work just fine.

For $100 I would look at the BPS Pro Qualifier.

I bought one of these Lews off someone from one of my tournament circles after his wife bought him an upgraded reel for his birthday (coincidentally about a month after he himself bought the Lews) I have two Gen 2 Revo SX's, a slightly older BPS Pro Qualifier, and the Lews. I would say it is basically tied for me with the Revos, and it cost quite a bit less. I would definitely recommend it - it performs as well as reels that are double its price IMHO.

It has actually got me interested in trying one of the Lews higher end reels to see how good they are, but honestly for the money, I don't even think trying a higher end one is necessary, this thing performs great.

how about the new lew's speed spool LFS which is only 7.0 oz and $100

Tatula for $103 from "the auction site". You can also find the Lews SS for like $75 on there.

Okay thanks guys, I guess I just wanted to hear more about the Orra, cause I haven't really even seen them anywhere.

Do you have a Dick's near you? They have some good deals on clearance reels right now.

I would stay away from the Orra SX. The best reel by far in that price range would be a Daiwa Tatula which you can get for $100 at various places online.
