Caught A Catfish On A Zara Spook

Featured Replies

Well, this is a first. I caught a catfish on a Zara Spook tonight. At first I though it was a Pike when I first saw the length of it but couldn't believe it when I saw those whiskers!

Wow, that's kind of surprising. I know I've caught a decent amount of channel cats and flatheads on cranks, spinnerbaits, swimbaits, etc when targeting bass but I've never caught one on top water. The stereotype is that channels are scavenger bottom feeders. That's true to a certain extent, but they can be pretty agressive when they want to be and often feed on smaller fish in the lake/pond. On a local fishing forum I frequent, there's a few guys that target and catch catfish fly fishing. Always seemed weird to me, but from the pictures I've seen, it works.

I've caught several on buzzbaits and even a 10lb channel on a hollow bodied frog out of the slop, thought I had a state record for a minute. They aren't slow moving bottom feeders like so many people think.
