Punching For Bass (How To Tie)

Featured Replies

Here is a video I shot from a few days ago on punching mats. These were smaller isolated mats around overhanging trees. For those of you new to punching I also did a short segment on tying up a punch rig. Not the best video on tying since it was outside and "in the moment" but I hope it helps out some.

Great video....way to catch em up man! Nice to see some flipping on video.

Good fish brother! What rod are you using for punching these days?  The Dobyns 766c is a beast of a rod, I thought I recall you asking me about it end of last year. It'd be nice if I could use it more lol. Hoping to hop up north this weekend if I can swing it.

Thanks guys!

Mark I'm using a Powell max 7'10" 5 power rod. I was thinking about grabbing a dobyns 766 or 795 (still am) but am on the fence between that or a better swimbait rod. I should probably get both lol.

Nice vid.....I have a 766 flip and I can say that this rods sensitivity is PHENOMENAL.......Using it to punch you can feel everything that is on the other end, ever twig, branch, stem, root that you are punching through.  I've not fished with any other rod for this technique, but I think it would be hard to beat
