Crankbait Rigging

Featured Replies

Hi guys.  I have a question about how you rig a crankbait and why. what affects the action for better or worse.

I use 30Lb braid and a snap. Most of my cranks have oval split rings, Is there a difference whether round or oval? some dont have split rings, Should I put one on them?

How will a split ring or a snap affect topwaters (spooks, poppers, and such), squarebills, and deep divers?

Thanks for your input

I use San Diego jam and never have a problem with action on frogs or cranks. *shrug*

Loop/rapala knot is strong and may aid the action....it's just a bit tedious for me to tie.

Split rings can damage your line...ovals are made different so as not to... A snap is ok.. If you desire, no split rings on tops but use a rapala knot for best action...

Oval split rings on all crankbaits, tied direct with fluoro.  No split rings and mono, tied direct w/ or w/o loop knot on topwaters.  No snaps or round split rings on anything for me.

I use a rapala loop knot.

Hi Alpha Male,

If you use a snap on the end of your line you want to remove any split rings on the baits.
