J Hook To Circle Hook?

Featured Replies

I'm short on cash at the moment and i'm all out of circle hooks. If I were to bend the tip of my J hook in more would it work like a circle hook would? Or is it a lost cause

Let us know how it works.

Using it for channel cats at my local river! I mean sure i can use J hooks but when i use circle hooks I tend to not miss a hit!

Bending a hook will weaken it. Since channel cats have such strong mouths & jaws I would not try it. Just use what you got as is until you can get some more circle hooks.

I agree... Setting the hook is half the fun anyways! Haha

I don't recommend it. Bending the tip weakens it, but more importantly, what makes a circle hook effective is the overall shape of the hook in relation to the hook point and how it pivots as it slide along the corner of the fish' mouth, ensuring penetration. Just bending the tip doesn't give you a circle hook, it gives you a J-hook with a bent tip.
