People ask me, why is it that I fish so much... I give them a generic answer, like "because it's fun". This morning, though, I feel compelled to let out why I do what I do. I guess I can break it down into two main subjects; the sport/hunt , and the water itself. The first one is easy, as the pursuit of fish provides an entertainment value shared by many. The latter, however, goes much deeper than satisfying the need for fun. The water doesn't disappoint. When people let you down, the water won't. "Best friends" may never call, but the water calls me constantly, and never fails to answer my call. The water is always there for you, when no one else is. It has the uncanny ability to take whatever problems you go to it with, and wash them away. Like you, the water has secrets, if you take the time to listen to them. And oftentimes, the water will unlock secrets about you to yourself.

I too enjoy the water a lot.  Many times will fish alone just so I don't get dissapointed with "friends".  I usually only ask once of someone as I really dislike excuses when they have asked and asked and then say can't go  for some interesting reason and then if they do go it's "are we done yet" or "what time ya planning on going in"!! 

Love company ... don't get me wrong.  The outdoors is meant for sharing...it's awesome

It is the pursuit of what is elusive but obtainable...

I grew up on one of the tributaries of the Cal - delta and was told that this river can take you anywhere in the world. I sometimes forget that phrase with tournaments and the pursuit of bigger bass. Whisperer is right about the water. I too fish by myself alot. I get there when I want without waiting for someone to show, and leave when I want. Who wants to listen to my bit#$in' anyhow? Leave your troubles on the dock, we're going for a boat ride!

For me fishing is a totally escape. I get in the zone, like intensely, it's like a drug to me. 

It's just hard to beat an early morning on the lake.  Sunrise.  Top water.  Peace and quiet.  God's country.
