jello baits?

Featured Replies

i thought i had this hand pour thing licked but lately i have been having a lot of problems.  many of my baits have been coming out really squishy soft.  i have tried to vary the amount of salt and tried different pouring heats and am just consistently getting really soft baits that are too soft for t-rigs.  im mostly pouring senkos and have not been using softeners.

any info is appreciated,

matt

I don't make my own plastics yet, but I have a few of the cataloges with all the products you would need.  It sounds like you may need to get plastic hardener. JMO not sure though.

thanks for suggestion but im almost certain that is not it.  most of the baits that im making people use softner in.  im pretty sure it is something i am doing or not doing.

Some ideas that you can do...

Stir stir and restir your plastic really well

Consider what type of plastic you are using, I think I remember reading that one of the platic manufacturers has been putting out crappy plastic (don't remember which)

I thought I had more ideas but guess not

Try posting to the forums on Del-mart.com or tackleunderground.com if you haven't already done so.  Lots of helpful advice there.

It sounds like your plastic is not mixed properly.  What plastic are you using?  Some of the plastic, like Lurecraft really needs to be mixed up well.  You need to scrape all of the hardener off of the bottom of the jug.  I use M-F because it just requires a few shakes and you are all set.  Look at the bottom of the jug, and see if there is a clump of harderner.  If that isn't your problem, then it could be a bad batch of plastic, but that really doesn't happen too often.  The bad batches of plastic mentioned in the previous post was referring to a bubble problem, not softness issues.  Good luck.

ding ding ding.  exactly right.  i feel like a dummy for not figuring out that the shake i was giving it was not sufficient.
