Academy Sports has P-Line coplymer CXX line on sale this week ... Of the following line weight choices (12lb. , 15lb. , 17lb. or 20lb.) which would you use  for the following C-Rig application / conditions :

 

* NW Georgia Reservoir with smooth clay bottom and occasional scattered rocks (typical of Lake Lanier , Lake Allatoona , Carters Lake, etc.)

* Target fish is Spotted Bass and occasional Large Mouth.

* C-Rig application is closer to shore (max depth 15 ft. or so ).

* Plan to use 1/2oz. ~ 3/4th oz. (as conditions dictate) steel egg weight on C-Rig with French Fry , Finesse Worm , Baby Brush Hawg , etc.

 

** I am not real experienced with using the P-Line CXX copolymer offering thus why the range of line weights I thought to consider ... I thought those with specific experience in using CXX for a C-Rig could chime in with what has worked best for them ?

You would probably be OK with 12, but I personally use 15. Honestly any of those sizes will be fine - it all depends on your preference/ assessment of bottom hazards.

I choose 15# hybrid because I want the extra strength, but I also still want to be able to break off if I have to. Sometimes the 15# puts up a fight. Lol.

I have used 15 extensively, it's a tough line, you should do fine with it, considering scattered rock.

I decided just this past weekend that I'm done with P-Line CXX and going back to Yo Zuri.  The P-Line is largely good, but has two big problems that I haven't had with Yo Zuri.  (All issues were from same spool of 15 lb moss green):

1.  I've had three separate breaks on the baitcast spool - I imagine that previous birdsnests kinked it enough to weaken significantly.  You can basically crease this line with your fingers and it visibly retains the kink -- it has to affect the strength.

 

2. The other problem is the memory on this line is dramatic.  Even with KVD line lube it coils like nobody's business.  Not much a huge problem on baitcaster, but useless for spinning reel applications.

CXX is tough as nails.  One thing to keep in mind is its diameter is quite large for it's rated lb test.  I think 15-17 would be good for main line.  Just make sure your leader will break before your mainline so you don't lose your whole set up if you get snagged.

Academy also has Berkley Trilene Big Game on sale for 50% less than the P-Line CXX copolymer ... Visibility is not a factor as water has been slightly stained for a while - more concerned with feel and stretch ...Anybody used Big Game as a C-Rig main line with success ? Or if you had to choose between Big Game 15lb. and CXX 15lb - which would be your choice ?

I've used both. CXX is far better for a C-rig IMO. It is stronger, has better abrasion resistance, and much less stretch. 15lb would also be my choice.

I would never choose Big Game over CXX.  I keep a spool of BG to use as backer but that's all I will use it for.

Thanks for the replies ! ... I will give CXX 15lb. or 17lb. a try , if I have any issues my fall back plan is AbrazX 15lb. I use for jigs .

* Big difference in line diameter though - CXX is stout compared to flurocarbon (Sunline , Seaguar) in the same pound test !
