Froggin' Setup

Featured Replies

Hey guys im looking for a froggin' setup on the cheap. I am looking to spend about $150 on the rod and about the same for the reel im looking for something like a heavy action, but with a tip where I can still walk the frog and still throw frogs like the livetarget 45t (the smallest frog livetarget makes.) I am thinking of buying a reel like the lews speed spool or something cheaper because I don't need that nice of a reel for froggin' right? just something with a high drag. thanks for the help and please comment if you thing the lews speed spool is a good or bad buy, I am just trying to take a break from spending $300 dollars on a combo. I mostly fish light cover, but I sometimes fish mats and openwater. Also if anyone knows or has an idea what the terex rods are going to cost tell me please.

As far as rod reel, for sub $300. Rod, I would look at a 7ft or 7' 3" H of MH Carbonlite's from BPS. Not the micro's. Reel, instead of a Speed Spool, try one higher, the Tournament MG. 7.1:1. Great reel for frogging. My last and most important suggestion is try Ron over at Beat the Big Box Boys. Give him a call, he is a trusted sponsor. Talk to him and see how much he will price out a Dobyns Savvy 735, and the Lews MG. You might be surprised.....  :eyebrows:  Seriously though try Ron, he has even offered an on-line discount for BR members.
