Help Me Identify A Fish

Featured Replies

Lake is in southern Alabama. Stocked with bass, bream, catfish and crappie. Last couple of times I've fished I've seen small fish that jump completely out of the water like a salt water mullet. Any ideas?

Fresh water mullet, maybe. We have them all over the canals down here in South FL.

Skipjack?

Shad, skipjack, shiners, herring, all sorts of baitfish that will jump when spooked. If they look anything like this though, call your local DNR immediately.

Silver Asian carp to be exact. Glad that's not what it is, some can't tell the difference between a juvenile silver carp and a gizzard shad.

It's a private lake about 15 acres. Loaded with stumps. Jet skiing would be a death wish. I'm quessing it's shad being spooked by bass.

Silver Carp get 40+lbs and can jump 10ft out of water...

Hitting one going fast on a ski/boat = very bad day/death

I've had a couple hit me going top speed in my old boat (around 30mph), leaves a very colorful bruise.
