Hey guys so I had a post on here yesterday about wanting to get a new jig/frog rod. I ended up getting a 6'10 MH F Tatula. Anyways it will mainly be used for jigs and frogs like I said, but at times it will also be used for senkos, spinnerbaits, and chatterbaits. Im leaning towards a Tatula 6.3:1, is that what I should go with?

I prefer a 7.3 tatula for the stuff you mentioned, mostly preference though, a 6.3 would work fine...

Since the rod and reel are made to match, I'd vote for 7.3 tatula as well. I'd also chip a bit more in and get a Lew's Tourney Pro or BB1, depending on your style, best reels I've ever fished for the money.

Sorry this maybe a dumb question, but what do you mean since the rod and reel are made to match? As far as I know a 6 Tatula or a 7 Tatula is the same reel other than the speed right?

Generally speaking, a reel and rod of the same name are made to match. Like they balance well and stuff. The speed it totally indifferent, its about weight. 

So a tatula reel is probly the best match for a tatula rod.

Oh gotchya. Haha sorry the way I read your post it seemed like you were saying to go for the 7 Tatula rather than the 6 Tatula because the 7 was made for that rod.

 

I would really like the higher speed for the rod, but Im worried about the amount of drag the spinnerbait would have on a 7. I usually throw spinnerbaits on a 6'6 MF rod with a 6.3:1 and that has quite a bit of drag already.

If that's the case you could always throw smaller baits. If you want to throw spinners 6, jigs 7. Just pick which ever you throw more

This is what they'd like you to think but is not necessarily true. As for the OP reel ratio/IPT is pretty much all preference with the exception of DEEP cranks where a 5.x:1 or 20IPT< is an actual mechanical advantage. 

I'd go with something in the 7's. I fish spinnerbaits a lot and throw them on a 7.1:1 and haven't had any issues with drag from the bait.
