  • Well guys, I wound up getting the core. The scorpion will probably be in my short list in the future. I forgot how much I like the 50 size shimanos

    Hi Salenity

I have all 4 in 50 size and on the water it's hard to tell them apart.

Total thread hi jack, sorry.

Ok Scorpion 1001XT is equivalent to a Curado 201G? but in 100 size? and the Scorpion 2014 is the same exact thing as the Curado I???

The 1001xt is the same size as a 51.

The 1001xt is the same size as a 51.

Thanks was trying to figure this out. Is it worth getting one over say a Chronarch 51E? or better off with a Scorpion/Curado 2014?

I wouldn't know, haven't used any of them. But I can tell you the core 51 is great

Clear/gray is the same thing, they are the lightest. They come stock on the shimano/yumeya bfs spools.

No, clear and gray/smoke are two different weights. The gray/smoke colored brakes are the lightest - period. Then the clear is somewhere in the middle, I'm not sure if they're lighter than the pink for certain but I think they are slightly.  If you look closely at my pic you can see that the smoke brakes are "slimmer" than the clear and the clear is slimmer than the green.

I have the original 1000, not the XT. Mine is saddled on an Avid AVC66MF.

This is my dedicated jerkbait rig.

I use mine for jerks and rattle baits up to half ounce. Also shaky heads, weightless plastics, smallish spinner baits, and shallow light cranks

I noticed neither of you guys mentioned flipping or pitching jigs, punching grass mats, or throwing frogs.  Are these reels not recommended for those applications, or do they just not excel at them?  If not, is it due to the gear ratio, or the size?  And if it is due to size can I assume that none of the 50 sized Shimanos would work well with the aforementioned applications either?

I've read that the Scorpion 1000 XT is good at finesse applications.  From what I can figure finesse applications just means the downsizing of baits.  Are there any finesse applications that involve flipping or pitching?  I think punching would be out of the question since the weight would be around an oz or bigger.  Please advise.

I'm gonna use it for jigs. I wouldn't use it for frogs, using 50-80# braid. You need more line capacity. Everything else knock your socks off.

On the older version reels the listing below is what has been posted by the Shimano rep on other sites.

The newer reels with SVS that I have, have mostly red ones, and some come with optional lighter white brakes. Has anyone seen other colours ?

Lightest   Smoke/Clear

Lighter   Red/Pink

Heavier   Green

Heaviest   Grey

I weighed a couple brake colors I use. Weight is for one brake each.

BNT3048 Smoke  weighs .012 grams

BNT1715 Red  weighs  .017 grams

I use the 50's for pitching and jigs from 12-20lb fluro, and frogging with 50lb braid.

Love it!

I'm waiting for my scorpion xt.  EMS tracking says it's in "retention period."  Whatever that means, but I should have it any day :respect-059:

I wanna know how it took them less than a week to get the reel to me from Japan for $20 but yet TW takes a week and a half from Cali. Lmao
