Noodle rod for panfish..

This is an experiment I have wanted to do for a long time. This is a 7' Lamiglas fly rod blank with spinning guides for crappie and bluegill fishing. I will be using a 1000 FB Shimano reel with it. This is one serious noodle rod, a buggy whip is stiff compared to this. This rod should make a hand sized bluegill feel like a 10lb LM.  :)

Looks like a fun one!  What weight blank is it?  (comparing in my head to the 2 wt I built)

Could also be a fun rod for tight stream, (stocker) trout where you don't have an room to backcast.

Are you clearing the bench for the fork rods??  ...lol   :)

Ronnie,

that is one "super cool" looking rod.  Great job on building!   ..i hope you have as much fun w/it as i do w/mine.

i've begun using mine @times w/a trickworm or a fluke, just to "play" with the basses.  it's a Blast!   ...takes a long time to wear them down, & then, when you get them to the boat, they surge again & take the tip of the rod Under the boat. LOL    ..they're a lot of fun.

i've got just the opposite end of the spectrum i'm working on right now.

i've got a shikari imb794f that i'm building for the spring in Santee Cooper.  ..gonna use it to chunk some heavy tubes & try to pull a "Preston Clark" on them.  Wheeeeeeeeeee

this rod building is addictive!!!!!!!!!

It's a 2/3 wt all glass (a real old timer) It's whippy as all getout, but is strong as a horse.

I agree that it should murder stocker trout. I am anxious to try it live lineing with tiny shiners for crappie also.

I have one more fly rod I promised to get done for a friend and a surf rod for another friend, and then 3-spiral wraps for me and I hope to have a little time to break em in for the Fork trip. It helps me to have something 'in the works' to get through the northern winter.

Thanks Ronnie,

I am going to come up with some creative ways to fish this rod. The trickworm is a great idea. I also want to try the little bitty rapala fs they are like 1/6 oz or something. I am looking forward to playing with it.

Be sure to post some pics of the Shikari along the way.

Tight wraps.

Ronnie

Nice looking rod ;D  When you hook into that LM that is in there eating the BGills  :) it should be interesting ;D

Ronnie I always carry a # 4 fly rod in the boat.  In the spring and summer I love to catch crappie or blue gill on them.  I have also catch several bass using it with a small 1/8 oz white and black popper.

Alpster,

Really fine work there.... It get a big 10 thumbs up

Thanks RM, for the kind words. It barely cracked freezing degrees here today with about a 30 mph wind. An excellent day for rod building. I've got muddy_man's rod on the lathe for a final coat of finish. I will try to get a few pics up when it's done.
