Was hoping to get your thoughts about the St. Croix Avid 6'2" MXF (AVC62MXF). I bought this for topwater use - mainly for walking the dog with spooks and other pencil hard baits. My question is what other techniques would you recommend this rod for? I was thinking using this in the winter with lite football jigs.

I looked at that for a worm rod - wacky, TX, etc. But not sure I'm going in that direction at this point. I would be cross-grading from a Avid 6'3" spinning rod for that model.

 

Personally love the shorter rods for kayak fishing and casting in tight quarters.

Topwaters, finesse jigs, weightless worms would all work on that rod. As for the reel, I don't think you can beat a 50 size Shimano. I can't really comment on line, but hopefully someone else will chime in with their recommendations on that.

I have two Chronarch 50e models, and that's what I'd use. Both are spooled with 20lb yellow Power Pro and I always use a leader of various poundage.

Any other comparable reels to the Chronarch 50E? Wanted to weigh all my options. Thanks.

Poppers, most topwaters, jerkbaits along with finesse worms and small jigs but topwaters and jerkbaits are going to really good with that rod.

Not sure, but since nobody else has chimed in, I'll suggest Daiwa Sol and PX-Type-R.

 

Not necessarily in the same money ball park, but....

 

Otherwise look for a used Curado 50e. IMHO, of course.

Wife uses hers for short pitching, jerkbait, topwater, and anything else

A used curado 50e, not much help there but it's still an option

I have mine outfitted with a 50E Curado. I use it for small walking baits, small poppers, and small to mid sized hard jerkbaits. It's the best popper and jerkbait rod I've ever used. 

Thanks everyone. I ordered the Chronarch 50E and Ill probably spool it with YoZuri Hybrid 12lb since I have another topwater setup with mono. Hopefully it wont effect the action for poppers.
