Hey guys so I am looking into getting a new rod. It will be for texas rigging 3/16-3/8 oz and jigs 1/4-3/8oz.  A lot of the time I am using the rod I will be throwing into cover, but not extremely heavy cover. Itll be laydowns for the most part. So would you recommend the 7ft mh f or 7ft mh xf? Thanks!

Fast is way more versatile on any Croix rod. The XF action on their rods is really fast compared to most XF out there. I would choose fast every time.

MHF, I have two of those and they are more versatile in my opinion. In Avid spinning rods, MXF would be  my preference.

Spinning or Baitcasting?  I have the 6'8" MHXF Avid spinning rod and love it.  It is great for Texas rigged lizards and senkos.  I did have at one time the 7' MHXF Avid casting rod and did not care for it as much.  I did not like the hump on the handle and seemed to load weird on a cast, making it difficult to cast accurately. I ended up returning it to BPS.  I did feel sort of bad returning because I knew I was just being picky but the sales guy said, "If you don't like it, bring it back."

 

If it is a casting rod and you don't mind the hump at the handle, then I guess I would pick the MHF.  In any case, the avid is a fine rod.

St croix fast is plenty fast. Xfast seems too much for me. I've owned avids for a long time and have use the mh fast action with no problems with t rigs and jigs. A medium/ fast avid would work nicely as well with the lighter stuff you'll be throwing. They are stout rods.

I'd go test both. I tested both a 7' M and MH fast. I don't throw into heavy cover but compared to my other MH rods the Avid MH was really stout. I ended up buying the M for 1/8, 3/16 TRigs and 1/4 jigs. Love the rod. Paired with my old Citica E it casts a mile.

For bottom contact jigs and t-rigs F for sure, the XF is AWESOME for swim jigs though.

I'm assuming it is a casting rod so that is what I'm talking about. The MH-F will serve the purpose very well and as mentioned, it will be versatile also but it really comes down to line. I use a MH-XF for pitching worms and jigs and I love it as it takes little effort for the rod to load and it lets me pitch with pin point accuracy but I'm not using braid, if you use braid then you will want the fast or even a moderate fast as you need a little extra give to compensate for the no stretch line. If you are using braid or may go to braid then the fast is going to be the rod.
