Favorite Line For Topwater

Featured Replies

Wanted input and opinions on your favorite line for top water bait's. Mainly throwing a KVD Sexy Dawg. Just got my topwater rod in

I like 10lb big game for topwaters. There really is no reason to go much heavier unless you are fishing in some heavy cover throwing some big baits, or are around some big fish.

I use 30# braid for frogs, poppers, spooks and buzzbaits all on the same rod.

It may not be ideal as most use mono, but as a co angler I'm limited to the amount of combo's to bring on someones else boat.

I'm a braid guy, and I throw around a lot of wood and heavy cover. So I'm going with Suffix 832, 40 or 50 pound.

Any mono or copoly will work, Personally I dont use braid so I stick with Defier or super natural.

12lb Mono - Cheap and effective.

50lb braid for a lot of my top water stuff here because I fish around the thick junk but I'll go to 30lb when I'm away from the slop.

Well that's threefold for me

10lb SX1 for light topwater weightless finesse stuff

30lb SX1 for smaller frogs/wakebaits

50lb FX2 for big frogs and chunky walking baits etc.
