Berkley Frenzy Diving Depths?

Featured Replies

15 years ago (or so) Berkley manufactured two lipped diving crankbaits.  Four or five years later they were discontinued when they took their hard plastic production to China.  Does anyone remember to what depth those cranks dived?  Thanks

My weak memory wants to say 3' & 7'... or 5' & 10'.   Anyone with a better recollection?

You could get the larger ones to 12 feet or so on 10 lb line, the smaller sizes maybe 8.  I've still got a bunch of those cranks.   The issue for me was getting them to run straight. they required much tuning and the tuning didn't stick.  Currently all those baits are sealed in a plastic shoe box.  They are "collectors editions" now.  All I got to do is wait another 40 years or so and they will become valuable.

An exception to these baits is the Frenzy trap style bait.  That bait for a few years now has been my first choice for rattle type baits.

I'm not sure if I can help but I had a bunch of Mag Divers in the Frenzy line up and they dove to 5'. I also have some brand new never used Frenzy shallow minnows in threadfin shad. I purchased 2 dozen of them when I found out they were being discontinued. I sold some to other guys but I have 6 that only get used during the post spawn, the time when fishing is tough is when this this is on and I haven't found anything that works as well but it seems to be only the shad color.

Yesterday I was getting one of the larger lipped version to scrape bottom lightly in 6' - 8' of water.  I didn't throw the smaller lipped version.  10' seems as if it would have been a stretch... I'm still wondering what the designed depths were?

There were three depth ranges.  A shallow, medium and mag diver.  I think it's like a DT6, DT10 and DT14 range.

Hmmm... I spent a couple years building these baits when they were made here in the states and I don't remember more than the two diving bill sizes on the cranks.  My wife would be quick to jump in and share that I've forgotten more important things...!  If there were indeed three depths, then yesterday I was throwing the medium.

Looked for about an hour and could not find them? I will be organizing tackle this weekend and will search some more. I did find two backs of the Keitech spiders that are worth more in their weight than gold though.
