I regularly use 10lb braid on my casting gear for open water baits. 30lb is the heaviest i go if im in the slop... 

so by 10lb braid you mean 10lb test not diameter?  isn't that around 2lb test diameter wise?

Yep, #10 power pro is 2lb diameter. I'll use mono backing if im spooling a regular spool. If im spooling a shallow spool, its straight braid taped on.

 

Fishing with 10lb power pro on 1000 size stradics was my absolute favorite way of fishing until i started playing with shallow spools in casting gear.

Not sure if this is a different thread but I see many posts about braid digging into itself here. I had braid dig in on my baitcaster this weekend.

Is there a way to "un-dig" the braid on a baitcaster? I've removed a few backlashes in my 1-year with a baitcaster but the dug in braid is proving very difficult. Is there a method to approach this issue or am I stuck cutting the line and re-spooling?

If you catch the dig before you cast it it's pretty easy to get out, just pull out the line like you would a backlash.

If you have a crazy backlash sometimes you just have to take your time with it.

I don't go less than 40lb Braid on Baitcaster.  No higher than 15lbs for spinning.
