Got a new Compre spinning rod a couple of weeks ago, and I have had it out a few times. It seems a little heavy to me. My question... if you have used this rod, is it especially heavy or have I just become spoiled by my GLX'S and NRX rods.

you are definitely spoiled with the Loomis rods you use otherwise, but the compre is a little bit heavy, the paint and the guides make it feel pretty tip heavy. If it had a bare graphite finish with better guides I would think it would feel very different. I do like the rods though...

i had a 7'2"MH casting compre and traded it off because it felt like a true temper broomstick... just my opinion though.  given the no questions asked lifetime warranty at that lower price point, i though it may be by design.  just got a used crucial and haven't really put it to the test, but it feels a bit better in my hands than the compre did.

I've got previous-generation (cork) Compres and my buddy has a new model. Mine are definitely lighter in tip.

 

I've completely crossed the current-gen Compre off my list for the weight. Same money and I can get a super light Carbonlite, or other brand. My 6'6" Carbonlites are lighter than my 6'3" Compre.

Didn't want to spend a bunch of money on a spinning combo. It won't get a lot of use. I am pretty much baitcasting all the time.

I have not used the spinning model but have used the 7'2 MH baitcast model. This rod looks and feels massive to me. Really tip heavy and just really thick. I guess I am used to *** and Envys which have great balance and slimmer blanks. I have a few Dobyns too so I guess I am not NRX spoil but somewhat spoiled. I just think Shimano needs to up their game on their rods since the field is running away from them.

Like Darren I have one of the old generation cork models, and it's not nearly as heavy. That said, it's probably my favorite rod. Paired with a Stradic FJ2500 it's a perfect balance. I can't say for the new ones.

 

The Loomis will likely be lighter, but how much is that worth to you? I've never had any issues with fatigue from a spinning rig, but a baitcast rig would probably be a different story.

 

Again like Darren stated, a Carbonlite rod is crazy light. I have one for one of my casting rigs, it's amazing how light it is and still has incredible sensitivity.
