So I've heard a bit here and there about throwing different baits with a co-angler. The only time I ever did anything like that was throwing a soft jerkbait tandem with a buzzbait, if I missed on on the buzzbait, my friend would almost always catch it on the softie. 

 

Anything else out there that comes to mind? 

 

 

Real Story: I'm fishing a tournament with a less than experienced co-angler, so she will be throwing the spinnerbait and buzzbait all day. I want to know if there is anything I can throw to help us out.  

ALWAYS have a senko tied on as a throwback bait.  Seriously!

the senko for sure, and a slower topwater....popper, possibly a hollow body frog.  Can't forget a swim jig. But honestly if you are going to have her fish a spinnerbait and/or buzzbait, fish your strenghts and your confidence baits.

I like to match the follow-up bait with the topwater I am using. For example, if I am using a 4'' white spook, i will throw back with a 4'' white Senko. If I am throwing a buzzbait with a 5'' watermelon red fluke trailer, I will throw back with a 5'', watermelon red fluke. Seems to help, especially in clear water.

Just today I missed a bass 2 times on a spinnerbait told my buddy to toss his senko to the same hole and he caught the fish first cast to the spot. I'd have to agree with the advice given!

Yeah, it seems that the Senko is used in place of my fluke. How do you guys rig your senkos? Weightless? Weighted hook? 

 

I'm probably going to throw a chatterbait or swim-jig unless the spinnerbait bite explodes. I'll throw a spook or a whopperplopper when topwater is on. 

I have more success weightless Texas rigged. Also wacky rigged with vinyl tubing works very well.

I would always follow up a missed topwater strike with a fluke until the Senko came out, that ended the fluke for that type of work. There is just something about that Senko falling that they can't ignore after missing a buzzbait.

If I get a miss on any moving bait I always go right back at them with a wacky rigged senko and 9.5 times out of 10, they bite it.

A Senko or fluke is a good bait for misses, but think about profile, and movement.  Think more compliment than contrast, especially if the moving power bite is on.  A lipless vibe bait or shallow square bill is a good compliment to a spinner/buzzer combo.  A spook type topwater is a good way to finesse those buzzbait misses, as well, since you can just kill it.  As always, cover will dictate what works and what doesn't.

So just to follow up, I ended up throwing a chatterbait or spinnerbait the whole time. Although I did catch a missed buzzbait fish on a wacky rigged senko. A 10" bass has never made such a big splash O_o
