Getting Old, Slow And Careless?

Eric, caught a 2 and a half pounder on Buggs and while trying to remove the crankbait the fish jumped, landing one of the barbs between my ring finger and wedding band.

Talk about lucky.

So it has or will happen to all of us sooner or later.

Down in South Florida, a real danger time is trying to get treble hooks out of a good size peacock's mouth.  Unlike black bass, a Peacock will go nuts while you have them lipped, even if you using your best death grip..  You have a greater chance at getting hooked while holding a peacock, if you don't use a bollo grip.  I'm always extra careful when handling a Peacocks.

I guess I'm lucky. Most of my favorite lures have single hooks and are weedless.

Mostly I fish deep cover, but I have the added benefit of doing less digging out of hooks, both on me and the fish.

Weedless hooks doesn't make you safe from accidents.....

My buddy Jim's words:

I had my rig hooked on a branch and was trying to pull free and it came rocketing back right at my face. So I turned my head and put up my hand and saw my 1oz bullet go by my head and the hook sunk in my palm.
I tried to remove myself but could not get the barb to break back threw plus I was hitting one of the bones after about 20min. I started to get a little light headed and needed to get to shore to toss my cookies. As dad keep telling me my pain tolerance is not at its highest as he jokingly laughed.
I did continue to fish for about a 1/2 hr but the hook keep grabbing my reel as I cranked her in. And decided this is enough and headed to the hospital.

At least you were able to keep on fishing and it wasn't worse than it was. Just be careful while they are healing because I don't know about you, but when stuff like that happens to me, I never seem to fail to end up wacking that injured body part about 5 more times in the next few days.

Old, slow and wiser. Had a lot more fishing hook accidents when younger, faster and careless.
