new baits deep and shallow

Featured Replies

I just finished these for a new friend I met on this forum.  I hope he likes all three.

You have one lucky friend.  I hope he can fish! Take care.  Nick

Very nice Big!  You always produce the nicest lures!  No matter what they are, they always look nice!  You are a true craftsman!  ;)  Do you make your own bills?  The look a little thinner than the store bought bills!  Very nice!  Do they flex at all?

Wickyman, those dive lips are made from g-11, I think it's Garolite. It is 1/32" thick and has very little to no flex, it's the best lip material out there IMHO. I also use polycarbonate 1/16" thick but that stuff will flex when used for a real long lip.

Is there a benefit for having such a large lip?  Seems like it would be an easy way to get a lure stuck, somewhere tight?  I kind of like the smaller square bill myself, then again, the deepest spot in our large lake, is like 15 feet deep?  It's a really shallow, natural lake.  I just don't have a need to fish that deep... lol

It takes a big lip like that to go deep, those baits were made to hit 18+ feet.  The coffin shape helps with kicking off of structure.   If you ever want to explore the depths of your lake you will need a bait with a big lip to hit 10 feet or more.  The length of the lip is more important than the width.

I don't fish the real deep ones very often, only on a couple lakes.  I don't have a good feel for them, I like the shallow and med running baits myself.

That's me, I'm a shallow to mid-depth crankbait man, no such luck at the deep-uns, but that doesn't stop me from trying!

Yeah, I prefer a shallow, or mid runner myself.  Our lake isn't all that deep, I think 15-25 feet at the most, in the middle...  Natural lakes are weird sometimes!  haha

Marty, again I'm in awe each time I see your work.
