Looking for a 7ft jerkbait rod, no 6'6", just 7ft. 90-130$ range. I had a Powell diesel medium heavy glass cranking rod, that I loved for jerkbaits. With the price of the Powell diesels up from what they used to sell, I'm looking for some new alternatives.

The Powell diesel I had was a 7ft medium heavy moderate tip rod, loved everything about it but the durability.

I have a shimano clarus cranking rod that I've been using for jerkbaits, is a 7ft medium heavy moderate tip rod but has way less backbone than I like. The rod does have a good moderate tip, but doesn't have enough backbone for my liking.

Any suggestions guys? Have looked at so many rods online, but not being able to feel them in person makes it fairly hard to decide on anything.

I have gander mountain around me and they have a few diff brands, but not a big selection at all, so I'm just gonna put my trust in you guys haha, no pressure or anything.

Give me your suggestions.

I got a powell max for $125 @ TW not sure if they still have them in stock but its 7 ft medium hvy mod fast rated 3/16-1/2 ounce perfect jerkbait rod IMO.

Falcon's Bucco 7MH Mod/Fast may work for you and is about $100.  Then you have the Black *** but it's a 7'1"M Fast action for the same price.  I have 2 of the Falcon's and have the 7'3"M Black *** but love the action of it and has some backbone to it as well.  

Temple Fork Outfitters by Gary Loomis 7' MH Signature Series.  It's what I'm throwing right now, and it's only $100.  It's rated as fast but it's got a lot more bend than most fast rated rods.

I like this rod.  My buddy (I've used it myself quite a few times) has a 7' med spinning 6/12 max lure 3/4 oz.  He uses it for double duty, bass and peacocks and inshore fish.  I have witnessed 20# snook, 10# jacks as well as nice sized bass, no doubts about the backbone.  Even though the rod is rated at 3/4 oz he throws 2 oz bottle poppers on it, I have never seen a rod cast so far. 

Can I ask why a 7' MH rod with a lot of backbone?  I'm curious and also want to learn how others are using jerkbaits.

I'd like to know that myself.

I specifically got a 6' med rod for jerks and poppers because it's just so much easier. I use 10# mono

It's really just what I'm comfortable with. I like a 7tt rod over the shorter rods. Also a lot of the time I really snap my rod tip hard on slack line l, when I'm working deeper running jerkbaits. I feel like with a medium powered rod, the rod is just all over the place when I need to pop the deeper jerkbaits hard.

Really just a preference thing I guess you could say. Don't take me wanting a rod with some back bone, as me wanting a broomstick. I like a rod with a good flexible tip(like most want with treble hook baits) but I don't want a "whippy" rod,

I got mine right down the road at Bass Pro, but you can get one online at their website.  Tackle Warehouse doesn't carry the signature series anymore for some reason.  

 

This rod has a softer tip than any other 7' medium heavy fast action rod I've ever seen.  It absolutely launches the Luck E strike RC STX. It's graphite which I find a bit more accurate and of course lighter than composite rods, and the extra length makes long casts and hooksets with a lot of line out way easier.  I've thrown traps and squarebills with it too along with soft plastics like the I shad with belly weighted hooks weighted as low as 3/16.  It handles all of these techniques really well.  It casts the 3/16 oz quite far for a rod rated 3/8 - 1oz, but that's for belly weighted swimbaits and baits rigged in the same manner. I don't think it would cast a 3/16 oz shakeyhead nearly as well.  

 

If you're gonna use it for jerkbaits, I wouldn't throw it on braided line unless you use a good long mono leader (6ft-7ft).  I thought the tip would be soft enough, but it transitions into a stout enough backbone that caused me to bend some hooks on 2 lb bass.  I was using a long fluoro leader and it still bent some hooks.  So yes. It does have some pretty good backbone to it, but not enough to be fishing deep footballheads or pulling fish out of heavy cover I wouldn't think.

 

I also think this rod will be perfect for throwing my 3/8 oz War Eagle Spinnerbaits and DT 10's.  To sum it up, It's a good all around reaction bait rod with a lifetime warranty.

Sounds what I'm looking for. I almost never use braid around here anyway. I use flouro with my jerkbaits, usually 10-12 pound. I'll check the rod out on bass pro site. Thanks for the help.

I really like the *** black 7'3 MH mod action with revo gen 3 winch 10lb Sunline mono. It's really a dream to fish with! I throw my bigger jb's on this setup.

Well I went to bass pro shop tonight and ended up with a fenwick hmg 7 ft medium rod. Checked out the TFO signature series and to be honest the fenwick felt and looked like a better built rod for the money. Out of all my 100$ rods the fenwick feels better built, I will see next weekend if it fishes as well as my others.
