Hey im currently looking for a "how to" on getting sponsors. I am an avid fisherman and fish almost everyday(from spring to early winter) and have won multiple Bassin' USA tournaments. I am looking to go fish BFL or any other bigger tournament and was wondering how do you get sponsors? Do they just contact you after you start winning? Please someone, if you could help me out that would be awesome! Thanks.

Welcome to the forums, it's nice to see another NRV angler.  :fishing:

This.

Be consistent. You don't have to win every tourney, but being in top 10 always helps. From what I've hear people talk about, and from what I've read, your fishing skills (oddly enough) have little to do with being successful with sponsors. Public relations (public speaking, community service, living a smart, reputable life style), marketing/sales are all huge factors.

Good luck on your quest and thank you for your service!

Consistent in the level of tournament fishing and working to help sell the sponsor's product are key. Just because you win will not have sponsors knocking down your door.

Promoting your sponsor products is key. Make sure you are doing so for products you like to use. Offer to help potential sponsors at boat and fishing shows for free. Your effort may get you some discount products but do not expect much more in the beginning of your relationship.

Remember that you are building relationship. Not a lot different than than trying to convince someone to be your girlfriend or boyfriend.

It's more about visibility than winning. Of course, winning boosts your profile. You have to demonstrate an ability to move product and sway opinion.  The level to which can be effective there, will determine the level of help you receive from a sponsor
