Hit a small pond today and caught a ton of bluegills with some nice bass mixed in. It felt great to get out and bend a rod again! The ice was almost 4" thick in some spots, but less then 2" in others. I was using 3 and 4 mm tungsten ice jigs tipped with plastics.

Keep safe.....  the only ice fishing we get to do down here in Miami-Dade County is fishing through the ice in the cooler for a nice, cold beverage....

Congrats on the fish. Be very carefull on 2-4" ice.

It can actually be pretty exciting! Watching the fish respond to your bait on your flasher is really fun.

Your braver than me. I like ice fishing just fine, and do it often. BUT 4" of ice is pushing it. If it's clear, hard, (what they call "black ice") I would go out on 4" and have before, but the minute I found that 2" spot, I would be out of there altogether.

I'm hoping to do a lot of ice fishing this winter.  My favorite local lake for ice fishing, Lake George, has a great panfish population as well as lake trout and landlocked salmon.  I usually fish for all three, setting tip-ups for the trout and salmon and jigging for panfish.  I have a portable pop-up two-man tent shanty for shelter from the wind and cold.  A Coleman kerosene (not white gas) lantern heats it up nicely.

I would rather be fishing than sitting at home. If I didn't go freeze my butt off trying to catch a fish a few times in the winter I would lose my mind.

Braver or stupider?   I have some friends that venture out on under 2 inches...Young and stupid I guess lol 

But seriously, I am comfortable on 3" but never go alone until there is a lot more ice.
