Thanksgiving Fishing Tradition

Featured Replies

My friend and I are starting a tradition this Thanksgiving to go fishing every year in the morning. Finish about lunch to get home and ready for food! Anyone else want to start as well? Or an existing tradition?

Trout fishing in SW VA on a killer stream known as Whitetop Laurel. We usually stay with family in Abingdon every year and get to fish it 2-3 times during thanksgiving break. Tons of wild and stocked rainbows, a few wild and stocked brookies, and a good number of wild browns. Not many streams where the "Triple Crown" is a common occurrence but we do it often there! Although the weather forecast is putting the trip in jeopardy

If we can't go I will start a botched trip tradition of fishing the hot side on Lake Anna

I have too much family to pull that off.

My big one is to go fishing on New Year's Day or whatever my first day off in the new year is, wind permitting. We've had some great days on the 1st of January.

Already ice on the water here. I normally spend Thanksgiving morning turkey hunting with my father.

Sounds like a good tradition, but I typically stick around and sample the food :).

Just fish earlier. :-)

I leave after dinner Thursday and fish Dale Hollow until Sunday every year.

I hope you aren't hunting for Thanksgiving dinner on Thanksgiving!  I would hate to get skunked on that hunt and have to tell the wife we aren't having Thanksgiving dinner this year.

That's when you just order pizza!  ;)

Had a great time basin yesterday,11/24/14 water temps 55 and air was 60. Used a rebel pond popper on 6 lb floro, with a tail of thin white buck and red and gold gloss. Very slight retrieve  with a long pause and a twitch. Had one 3lb and four 1-2lbs. You can catch bass in cold water. Jigged up a bream also. Good fishing
