Would You Fish A Frog Without Legs?

Are legs on a frog important to you? I would think that in heavy cover like a mat or thick pads, they wouldn't be that important, but they'd be utilized more in clear water. Thoughts?

I've had them come out and continued to throw for a while. The actual action of the legs isn't important in heavy cover, but I didn't like the way it fished without that extra weight in the back.  If I were to take legs out on purpose, I'd glue small weights in the holes the legs came out of.

well, my frogs with skirts work just fine

You mean what I know lol

i like the "legs" its the main part of the "sitting" action in open water, however i am sure a bass would slam the frog without the skirt, i mean its moving on the surface and can fit in a bass' mouth so why not. Especially in heavy cover, they just really key in on the movement and vibrations

I always fish a frog with its legs.

I will cut one leg to be shorter than the other to give the frog better movement in the water.

Nope look at the Boze ZZ walker frog with no legs that works great

Certainly do.

I modify hollow body frogs for use on the Lake Guntersville mats like the white one.

I remove the legs and put lead weights in place of them so they will be more noticeable to bass under that thick mat. I add rattles to the nose for extra noise.

I was shown that technique by some Guntersville regulars.

I trim the skirts on mine but haven't experimented with taking them off altogether.

Sure, lots of people take the legs off when fishing mats to prevent short strikes.

I drag a Mann's Ghost (which doesn't have legs or a skirt) through slop all the time.  Even when it's not able to "walk the dog" in open water it still catches fish so no, you don't need legs.

Bass hit frogs w/legs, so there is your answer.

I gotta admit, the title of this thread threw me for a second. And that's all I will say.

Hootie

Yes I would, although it is obvious that I would have to be sitting down to do it.

Yes....Cutting the legs off a Pad Crasher Jr. creates this spastic little nugget that, to me, acts like a Big June Bug or Cicada.  It's another tool in the topwater bag that works well

if it has white legs i cut them very short to keep fish from grabbing just legs.

i have caught fish on legless frogs, i dont think it makes a ton of difference.

I usually have a long legged, short legged and no legged frog tied up when that is the bite I am after.

Quite often the legless one wins the most bites

My most productive frog has always been the original Scum Frog.
All it has is one puff of strand out the middle.
