Abu Ambassadeur Upgrade

Featured Replies

hey guys I have 3 older Abu Garcia Ambassadeurs,a 5000c,a 5500c&a 5600 c.they all have multi-stop anti-reverse&i was wondering is there any way to upgrade them to have an instant anti-reverse? I would love to turn the 5600 into a dedicated swimbait reel but I'd much rather have instant anti-reverse.if theres no instant anti-reverse upgrades then I guess I now have a good excuse to buy a new reel! :D

I'm not sure if there would be obstacles but at a minimum you'd need a new side plate with a pressed in AR clutch and a sleeve. Likely a few washers to make the stack the right height. Bottom line is it's more cost effective to just buy another reel. Let add that the mechanical AR has worked for years in some very hard use applications. They'll work fine as they are.

Like DVT says its fine like it is i use many without iar.aint had no issue's matter of fact with moving baits i prefer backplay,i really thinks its makes a world of diff in hookups and also keepin them hooked up.

Thanks guys.I have no doubt they'll hold up&have held up(they were my grandpas catfishing reels) but I guess I've been spoiled by instant anti-reverse & I just cant get use to the backplay but I do enjoy using them for crankin'reels. As far as swimbaiting goes I think I see a shimano Cardiff 300 in my future! :D
