Looks like a new species was discovered recently, a new species of "Snailfish". Also set the record for deepest fish recorded, spotted at over 26,000 feet deep! I thought this was really cool, also makes me wonder what other stuff is out there in the ocean that we don't know about.

The deepwater fish that still amazes me is that Black Sea Devil (I think that's what it's called) the Monterey Bay Aquarium folks captured on video a few weeks back.  When I first started watching the video, I couldn't believe it was real.

 

There's some weird stuff way down there!  None of the reels I have will spool enough line to get down there, and even with a pricey Megabass PopMax or XPod, I don't think I could get one to come up from 26,000' to hit a surface plug...   ;-)

Excellent -- I'll spool my Tiagra 130 with 10lb braid and "long line" it.  That should get it bumping the bottom in 26k feet.  Hehe...

Put it in free spool when you cross the continental shelf and go a few miles past the structure before engaging it. Better take advantage of the two speed capability so you don't get fatigued
