Scouting Out Some New Places To Fish

Recommended Posts

I'm off from work Christmas Eve, until Jan. 2.  I think I will go out and locate some more places to fish.  I already have been looking at Google Maps and figuring how far I will have to drive.  If it is warm enough I might even wet a line or two.

I also enjoy fishing new spots. It's tempting to go where you get the bites but sometimes curiosity and adventure takes me to new water. If you have an iPhone I recommend you download the Apple app "Trail Tracker", $1.99. It will show your position on a satellite view of the lake or river and also mark your trail as you search for the big hawg.

I enjoy taking trips in the water to go discover new water (or ice as is the case here). Gives me something to do and look forward to in the spring. Sometimes you can even talk to the ice fishermen and find out whats in a body of water.

I wish i could scout out new waters. I am moving to Fort Worth in February so looking around here in Kansas is pretty pointless. Good luck though!

Hey Bank, does the Missouri game and inland fisheries department have any publications on places to fish around the state?

The Virginia Game and Inland Fisheries Department publishes a booklet each year that lists every lake and river that you can fish in the Commonwealth.

If you can find this data you can plan your recon trips.

Let us know what new places you find in Missouri.

Merry Christmas!

Yea but in February you'll be in heart of some of the best bass fishing in America at the right time of the year!

They have an entire website broken down by counties.  Each fishing area link has a brochure and a map.  I have been putting the name of the lake in Google maps and figuring the distance and the time it will take to drive there.

Google Earth is a great way to find new ponds you might skip over.

What part of MO are you looking?  I moved to the St. Joseph area a couple years ago and had a blast searching out and fishing new waters.  The waters over on the west side is much better than the St. Louis side, where I moved from.  Message me it you're on this side (or even the east side) and I might be able to give you a few ideas.

I'll probably be looking at some streams and small rivers between STL and Jeff City.  Looking for some more places to catch smallies.
