Lizards In My Pond?

Recommended Posts

Hello

I went fishin

Today and the only thing I saw in the water were these olive green lizard things with light colored bellies

Funny thing is

When I would drag my worm in to shore they would follow it and one even climbed aboard and held on with his back legs up and out of the water

I tried to get a pic but he jumped off

Very odd creatures

I think you're describing what I call newts. When I start seeing them in Spring, I know it's time to get serious about fishing.

I went camping at Hanging Rock State Park and the pond they had there was chock-full of lizards. They were everywhere on the bottom. We went swimming and caught several. Must be good forage.

All I had was some pumpkin green chart tipped baby brush hogs.

It just blew my mind when that little guy climbed aboard my Zoom MagII and rode it to shore and up out of the water with his back legs

I'm pretty sure that Newts are poisonous to bass

I think only some newts are poisonous to bass and the poisonous ones are in California, Could be completely wrong though.

They are very fond of drop shots also

Someone did the angling world a disservice by calling the first plastic salamander a "LIZARD".

Lizards are terrestrial animals found on land, while newts and salamanders are amphibians found in water.

All forms of wildlife serve a function, even toxic newts and salamanders.

For the most part though, the most poisonous sallies are the most vividly colored (nature's red flag)

Same here, went out yesterday caught nothing but did see a few newts swiming around. Didn't know these guys swim around in this frigid water. Thought they would be hibernating or something.
