Wright And Mcgill Skeet Reese S-Glass Crank Bait Rod

Featured Replies

Anyone have one of these? They seem to have pretty decent reviews for what I have seen but not many out there.  Not sure if Skeet himself uses this exact rod for his crank bait fishing but it looks like he does in his videos.  They have them at Walmart on Close out for $69.00.  Seems a little heavy but I love the glass feel and the very soft tip.  Seems like it could cast a crank bait a country mile. Never owned a bait specific rod before and I really think the color is kinda cool.  Also, why is the design on this rod so thick at the butt section?? I realize the reason for the soft tip for cranks but the butt section of this rod is enormous which makes it feel heavy.

I have the MH/M, and it works well. I like the feel of it.  I had the same question, and What I have been told it's the way Glass type rods are made, thicker towards the butt end then a graphite rod.

I just ordered one of these from Tackle Warehouse during their holiday sale for $49.  I have been looking for a new cranking rod and I figured for that price it would be worth a try.  Once it gets delivered and I try it out, I'll post again and let you know how it is.

I have one of the 7' skeet cranking and two of the rick clunn 7' H, and I love all of them, they have great parabolic action. I loose very few fish with these rods...

Thanks for the info! You just saved me $20!

I started throwing throwing cranks as one of my primary baits last year, mainly due to watching Randy Howell clobber them in the classic. Just getting into baitcasters and just could not resist getting this rod . I paired it up with an abu garcia orra 5:3:1 and absolutely love it, I think you will enjoy it too- it is comparable to many rods that I have in $150+ price point for sensitivity. For not more than the cost of an ugly stick- I think it is a no brainer.

Also.On TW website, there is a quote by Skeet that says he uses each of these rods- so I trust this is the same rod he uses for cranks. I only wish that they came in a color besides yellow- the front of the deck is starting to look like a rainbow with the yellow rods, a few orange carrot sticks, some blue st croixs...

These rods are ok but you need to pay attention to the reel seat and reel collar. If they are tightened too tight, they will strip and you will need to secure the reel collar with glue or something else to keep it in place. Then after they are stripped, when you set the hook, the reel comes off the rod and into your hand by the reel handle.  Just saying. I purchased several to replace my  outdated rods a couple years ago. Spend the extra money and buy Ducket White Ice rods. They have a 20 year warranty. No questions asked. The white ice are the only ones with the 20 year . The Original Duckett and Ghost rods have a 12 month and 2 year warranty.  **And to answer your question if Skeet Reese uses these rods on his boat, Yes he does. I was his marshal at the 2014 BASSMASTER BASSFEST on Chickamauga Lake TN. I asked him the same question. He replied, "I use the same rods and reels that a person can buy at Wal-Mart and and place that sells his brand of rods/reels." "There is no difference."  Thats when I brought up my rod issues to him. Enjoy.  Not trying to be negative towards any one brand or discourage anyone from purchasing that brand of product. Just giving first hand info on this product that I have experienced. The 7'6" carolina rig rod has been good to me. The action is great. It has probably outlasted most of the rods I purchased from this line.

Pa in law won many a club tournement with his boat full of yellow rods. He never had a single issue that I know of.

He's getting away from them based solely on weight. You can get a much lighter rod nowadays In the same price range .

He will probably never let go of the carolina rig rod.
