Jointed Rapalas

Featured Replies

Just wondering how you guys fish them?I have recently started fishing alot of the original floaters with much sucess and tried the jointed and didn't like the movements it made while cranking it.So I thought I would give it another try and while pulling out a backlash I noticed that it was moving amazingly while I was accidentally twitching it.Next cast a Bass missed it knocking it almost a foot out of the water! The next day I went to a spot where I had caught VERY few Bass [all on a jig] and pulled in 3 by fishing it extremely slow and never letting it get below the surface. How about you guys???

Im assuming your talking about JSR-5 and 7's  I use both and i fish both many different ways.  I have used them on top and have had some success.  During the warmer months ill use them as intended and dive them to the depth wanted and the bass will kill them..  I ussually use baby bass color also btw :)  anyway best of luck :)

I love the normal broken back/jointed minnows, have been fishing the light blue/white belly for about 20 years now (I can barely believe that - 20 years!).

As much as I love that lure, I hate the jointed shad raps diving rapala.  I can't buy a bite on it for some reason.

I'm in the same boat! Darn stinkin' jointed shad rap. ;D

I like to fish the jointed the same way as i fish a original floater. Honestly, i like the original floaters better than the jointed ones.

I use it espesically at night fall. A number 9 to a number 11 in Silver.black or perch. Cast to either some shallow shore structure or over a weed bed in water less than 12 foot deep. Let it sit there after the cast then a couple of small twitches then rest then you can mees with the twitching to get the bait to look like a dying minnow on top all the way back to the boat. You will get your share of heart pounding strikes this way :)

Bought a #9 jointed a while ago in black and silver and (probably just me) just don't have the bites :) as with the original.

Have fished the black and silver #9 or #11 original for a long time and fish it every way from slow crawl to fishing it like a jerk bait. Sometimes small bass like it too much (on #11 have caught bass smaller than lure). Have caught some REALLY nice ones on them though, usually late in the evening. I think it is one of the Must Have In My Tackle Box lures.

I bought a #11 in the new (to me) realistic shad color. It is really just a variation on the black and silver. So far, really like it.

Sorry the post turned into nothing but praising for the original :-?

I really like the floating jointed minnow and the jointed Shad Rap. The Shad Rap is a suspending bait and should be fished as such to get results: A steady retrieve, pause, twitch retreive etc. any combo you want. The floater I use a fast retrieve with a twitch  to make it dive when fish are more active or a slow retrieve, pause, twitch and go when things are slow.

I caught a PB on a Jointed Shad Rap! I love them, but I only use them in certain conditions.

Last August I was at Lake Tawakoni and it was HOT! I was tired and the fish were not biting that day. So I hooked up a JSR-5 and fished it reeeeeeal slooooooow. Gave it a twitch now and then to give it the "injured and dying" look.

After 4 or 5 casts I felt a tug. Nothing more than that until I started to reel faster. Then the fight began. It ended up being a big tubby 8lbs lazy-*** bass.

Some largemouth just aren't willing to go out of their way to chase down a burning spinner bait, but if you dangle a nearly dead minnow right in front of their nose...
