Happy New Year From The Post Office

As of January 25, 2014, all packages 13.01 ounces or more must have a bar code, Form 400, on them for tracking purposes, if mailed through our postal system.

This is not live tracking like UPS or Fed-ex. It is a tracking bar code that the post office can use to try to find where they lost your package/ envelope.

I am going to the post office and try to score as many Form 400's as possible for large envelopes and packages.

There is no charge for the Form 400.

I suggest everyone go to their favorite post office and speak with a clerk about this new system and the mandatory bar code on your large envelopes and packages.

This only applies to people at home putting stamps on their mail..if you buy postage online or at the post office, it's been there for years now. The post office is merely bringing everything to an even level.

Yes. Don't want to give up 2014.

Thanks for the correction.

Deak, it applies to businesses who use postage meters the most.

Ditch the meter and buy online, get a discount plus free tracking and no worries with extra labels..

i work in printing and bulk mailing. we meter a lot of jobs we get, but we rarely ever(never) mail out anything that weighs that much per piece. if so its usually a small print job that we dont actually mail out the individual pieces for. like a box of letterheads.

Deak, who do you use on-line for the postage, etc.?

I will look into it.

Thanks.
